Who are we?
Our Mission
Backyard bisque sets out to provide affordable resources, knowledge, and a space for people who may not have easy access to ceramics. Our goal is to bridge that gap between creativity and accessibility.
Foot
Hey everybody my name is Foot aka Sundiata Forbes and I am a CoFounder of BackyardBisque. Artistic expression has always been a huge part of my life. Ever since I was little I would dabble in whatever creative endeavors were presented in front of me. When I touched clay for the first time, I knew it would be the main medium I would use to express myself. The responsiveness of the material and the intuitiveness of the practice drew me in immediately. My earth toned pallets and organic forms draw influence from nature and my environment. My goals here at BackyardBisque are to use my connections and resources to uplift and support local LA clay artists.
DirtyGirlStu
Hey, what’s up!! I’m DirtyGirlStu aka Haley Demar and I’m a partner at BackyardBisque. This project really means a lot to me as art was embedded into me since birth pretty much. I grew up surrounded by acrylic paints, airbrushes and other random (most likely toxic) chemicals my dad had collected over his years as a photo realism artist in the film poster space. His dedication to his craft was something to marvel at—sometimes too dedicated to the point where I’d tell him to go get more sleep. Although life and school put that piece of myself on the back burner for a long time, my love rekindled after picking up ceramics as a hobby a little less than two years ago. I find myself coming back to making animal/creature figurines, thin champagne flutes, small funky shaped dinnerware and whatever random idea I draw up. My pieces remind me of that part of myself and my everlasting connection to my dad. As a partner at Backyardbisque, I hope to supply the local community with clay resources that’ll reignite their inner artist.
